FirmbriefDemandsBuilt by Jack Harley
For Victorian debt and commercial practices

A letter of demand shouldn't take the afternoon.

A debt intake on your own website. Clients say who owes them, how much and why, and pay your fee. You get a first draft letter to review. For a company debtor, you confirm the ASIC extract before you approve.

The afternoon on a letter of demand

Stop re-keying invoices into a letter.

The client emails a stack of invoices and a trading name.

You hunt the ACN, type the letter, check the limitation period, and remember not to add costs you can't demand. Then you invoice.

Today
The afternoon

Re-keying invoices, checking the entity, typing the letter, chasing the fee.

With Firmbrief
You review

The answers and the fee are in. You check the draft, confirm ASIC if it's a company, and sign.

On the trial we time your first 3 letters, so you see your own numbers. No invented hourly rates.

And the letter stops waiting on your desk until the evening.

How it works

Three steps. You only do the last one.

  1. We put it on your website

On your own domain, like demands.yourfirm.com.au, in your branding, with your letter precedent and your fee. We do the setup.

  2. Clients answer and pay

At home, on their phone, in their own language. They pay your fee by card before anything is drafted, to the account your trust accountant approves.

So you're paid before you start. No invoices to chase, and no unpaid work if a client goes quiet.

  3. You review the draft

A first draft letter, with the traps flagged. For a company you confirm the ASIC extract. You decide what goes out.

Live at a Victorian practice. Your precedent, your fee, your name on the letter.

Before and after

What changes on each letter.

Without
  • You re-type invoices from an email chain.
  • The trading name isn't the ACN.
  • You invoice after sending, then chase it.
With Firmbrief
  • Clients answer at home, in their language.
  • The first draft is waiting. ASIC is a gate, not a guess.
  • Your fee is paid before you start.

Compliance, built in

Nothing is sent until you approve it.

  • Locked until you approve

The debtor never hears from Firmbrief. You decide what goes out.

  • ASIC extract, as a gate

For a company debtor, approve is blocked until you confirm a current extract.

  • Rule 34 and the ACCC/ASIC guideline

Don't demand legal costs without a contractual right. Don't threaten action you won't take.

  • Limitation flagged from the answers

A simple contract debt in Victoria is generally 6 years. The answers tell you when to look.

Built around the Victorian letter-of-demand checklist and the VLSB+C and LIV guidance.

What we'll cover in 15 minutes

01

Your precedent and your fee

I'll ask how you take debt instructions now, which letter you use, and what you charge for a letter of demand.

02

Your next 3 letters, $0 setup

I set it up on your precedent, with your branding, your fee and your clients' languages. You send the link to your next 3 demand clients, and I'm on the phone if anything's unclear.

03

After the 3 letters

A one-off setup fee plus a fee per completed letter, both quoted before you commit. No lock-in contract.

No time saved, no fee. If you stop, your clients' data is returned to you or deleted.

Fair questions

What principals ask me.

Is this an online debt-collection service?

No. The debtor never hears from Firmbrief. Your client gives the debt details and pays your fee through your firm's own page. You get a first draft letter, you review it, and your firm's name is on it.

Does AI send the letter?

No. A first draft is prepared for you to review. Nothing is issued until you approve it. For a company debtor, approve is blocked until you confirm you have checked a current ASIC extract.

What about the wrong company, or costs on the letter?

For a company, you confirm the extract (exact name, ACN, still registered) before you can approve. The workflow is built around Conduct Rule 34: don't demand legal costs without a contractual right. And the ACCC/ASIC guideline: don't threaten action you aren't instructed or intending to take. The 6-year limitation period for a simple contract debt in Victoria is flagged from the answers. See the checklist.

What happens after the first 3 letters?

A one-off setup fee and a fee per completed letter, both quoted on the call before you commit. No lock-in contract. If those 3 letters didn't save you time, you owe nothing.

Where does the payment go, and who owns the data?

The fee is paid upfront by card, to the account your trust accountant approves. Card fees, refunds and chargebacks are set up with them before you go live (the trust money rules). The data belongs to your firm, sits behind a lawyer-only login, never goes into public chatbots, and is exported to you then deleted if you stop.

Something else? or WhatsApp Jack.

The letter still has your name on it. Your time belongs in the check that gets it right, not the re-typing.
